Do you know about the Chihuahua breed? I’m sure you do! Lets learn about their origin and it’s characteristics. Well, we are going to talk about the characteristics of the chihuahua and for that I have brought my colleague Patricia, who knows a lot of things about chihuahuas because she has three of them at home. So we wanted to do this video, and I recommend that you look for the rest of the videos because we are going to talk about a lot of things about chihuahuas. But in this first video we are going to talk about the origins of the chihuahua and its physical characteristics. Here you can see three different types of dogs, a female adult and two little puppies, so you can see a bit the difference. Lets start talking about the chihuahuas origin, so Patri, tell us which is the origin of this kind of breed. (Patricia) Well, the chihuahua also called chihuahuenio, that has its origin in a dog that guided the civilization “Tolteca” they were the predecessors or the ancestors of the Aztecs and it was a dog originally called chichi and from that, the actual chihuahua’s came from. They are very small dogs, the standard says they have to weigh between a kilo and a half and three kilos as much, and they are characterized because they have a very compact body and this head with the shape of an apple and the little tale like this one quite long and always up, a bit arched, there are two kinds of chihuahuas which are the ones with long hair like this one, of the ones with short hair. (Antonio) They are usually like this right? Yes, the majority are with short hair and and all colors are allowed in the breed standard except, for gray merlet the rest all colors are allowed (Antonio) However, from what I have been able to read, I think it was originally in the state of Chihuahua in Mexico, and therefore that’s why the breed got their name. (Patricia) Originating in the central part of Mexico especially the state of Chihuahua, and talking about physical characteristics which are very peculiar apart from their size and their weight the standard of the breed tells us that the snout has to be a bit short and the nose looking up a bit with the lip well pressed
and the bite has to be in clamp the eyes are very dark and quite big amd very round, the skull is shaped as an apple and the ears are always erect and pointy
and with the tip of the ear rounded. The paws are very thin the body is quite compact,
they tend to be puppies with enough musculature and the tail is a moderate length and they normally have it curved going up, (Antonio) I also saw that in Mexico they use them to hunt mice in many places, because it is a very agile dog and they are very small. (Patricia) Although they are very small, they are very lively dogs with a lot of energy and they are very fas when they start to run, they are great for small apartments because of their size, thats why lately we see them so much in big citys, but still, they are very active dogs and they need to release all the energy.
They love to play and run like any other dog and another characteristic that is very funny of them is that although their small size they are very brave, they don’t know what fear is and they face animals that are many times bigger than them, without a bit of fear. (Antonio) How do they behave when they live with many other dogs?
Are they well behaved? (Patricia) They are normally very sociable they love living with the company of other dogs or even cats and the truth is that they are quite homely, they love the human contact and when they live with each other or with different dogs even big dogs, what is true is that with big dogs the head of the pack is normaly the chihuahua. (Antonio) Very good, well I’d say that with all this we can finish it up, and we invite you to look up more about chihuahuas because we are going to make many more videos in which we are going to explain the most common pathologies
and another series of important cares So, see you in the next video!! (Patricia) Goodbye!
