Leopard Lady Living With Wild Cats | BEAST BUDDIES

BABETTE DE JONGE: I just go in naturally and
I see how they behave, and if it’s nice, it’s fine I am staying. Otherwise I go out
and the game is over, you know. COMM: For Babette De Jonge, there is only one
way to kick off her day. BABETTE DE JONGE: So it’s nice to go in
and they come to you and greet you; they give you a head shake, sometimes they spray you. BABETTE DE JONGE: I just respect them and I am not afraid to go in with them to keep this special bond. COMM: Sadly, there is not enough time to spend
all day with the leopards, as Babette has a lot of wild cats to care for. BABETTE DE JONGE: The rescues were four leopards.
That’s Feline and her brother Felix and we have another male Felipe and his female
Felicia. COMM: In 2011, the vet founded Wild Cats World
in South Africa – a sanctuary for rehabilitated and rescued wild cats. BABETTE DE JONGE: For years, I was just an
average animal lover. When I started to volunteer at sanctuaries, I thought well, there are
certain things I really don’t like how animals are being kept; how they are treated. So I
thought I would like to make it better for them. So we decided to put up our project
here. So that was basically the start. COMM: Of all the big cats living in the sanctuary, Babette has formed a special bond with one particular species. BABETTE DE JONGE: This lady, Feline, is an
African leopard. We got her in 2011 when she was born. She was at a breeding farm, who
took her away from her mother. I saw how she just had to interact with people. So that’s
why we brought her here in a better enclosure and we took her brother. So sort of rescued
him to be company for her. COMM: Babette is passionate about conserving endangered species and providing homes for mistreated animals. BABETTE DE JONGE: There is a few rescue animals
and there are a few, they are also the “rescues” but they are more like born in captivity.
They were born for trades and for abuse and for the hunting so that’s
why we rescued them. We brought them here to give them a better life. We have like caracals
who the mother has been shot by farmers and then the orphan kittens were raised here. ZANELL MCCARTHY: Every cat has a very different
personality, like one can be very loving, one can be very playful, some are bit calmer
than others, but you cannot really compare one cat to another. Since I was young I always
had a passion for wildlife. It was my dream to work with animals. So I got the opportunity
to work with the big cats and I fell in love with it. ZANELL MCCARTHY: It’s just something you
cannot describe to someone. The bond that you build up with these animals is just amazing. BABETTE DE JONGE: We want the best for them. So we do feed them game meats. It’s what they eat in the wild. BABETTE DE JONGE: Impala, zebra, rabbits
sometimes or, every now and then, a full chicken. ZANELL MCCARTHY: If you see the power that
these animals have and the way that they play with each other, you see how strong they are. ZANELL MCCARTHY: You must always be careful
for the behaviour, you can check when they are going to be naughty, but it’s just all
playing. I don’t ever feel intimidated by them. BABETTE DE JONGE: They are always playful
or naughty, but not aggressive, no never. If they would, I don’t think I would go
in anymore. COMM: Babette’s ultimate goal is to release
all the animals into the wild where possible. And if not, to release them into huge enclosures
– giving them as close to a wild experience as possible. BABETTE DE JONGE: This is called enclosure.
So, a really big area, but they are not really outside the fencing yet. But they are having
a huge space and they are getting all their smells and views from the place where they
will live wild. ZANELL MCCARTHY: People think it’s like
the king of the jungle or they are the most aggressive animals, but they are not. They
are actually very gentle animals; very misunderstood. BABETTE DE JONGE: Cats in general, I mean
whether they are domestic or very small or very big, I am just attracted to their looks
and also to the way they are so independent, but also so loving. The way they just look
over you, like they’re the rulers of the world – I love that. It’s just great.

  8. I wonder if this facility/organization has information or thoughts on what might've become of some leopards that go missing from game reserves?

  9. “We’ve provided a home for these big cats”

A normal cat walks to them
    “Are you sure about that?”

  10. Very nice, very misunderstood cats. We need to tell the indigenous African population that fall prey to these big cats, not to be afraid.

  11. long live the african loep

  12. You are amazing Ledy RESPECT🌷👍🐕💝

  13. Fantastic video good luck friends

  14. Is that an African leopard

  15. Am I the only one that thinks this is great but at the same time is sad because no one really thinks to do this for children over wild animals?

  16. DID YOU SEE THAT HISSING WHEN EATING BECAUSE HAY THIS IS MY FOOD & HANDS OFF EVEN IF YOU GAVE IT TO ME BUT NOW IT'S MINE

  17. If you make them your friend, the chance of success in the wild is much less. They will lose their fear of humans and end up shot. Only apes are better at being released because they eat trees. Apes are great except for chimps. Chimps are dangerous. Stay away from adult chimpanzees.

  18. I Hope we have big cats in uk countrysides

  19. You are great people, such people if it was more ..;)

  28. Minunați sunt si Leoparzii!…
    Mulțumesc pentru video 😃

  29. Leopard are the most dangerous to humans

  30. This reminds me of this show I used to love, fatal attractions, people being eaten by big cats and poisonous snakes and crocodiles and hippos and the like.

Think I'll watch it again, to convince myself NOT to adopt a big cat myself.

  31. One more amazing human…. Of course the cats have been amazing too…

  32. Not your average crazy cat lady. Keep up the good work.

  33. Today they are probably safer with you Babette than in the wild because of human folly.

  34. they are only need food..home n love.we share the beutiful planet..i love animals….tq for loving..

  35. side benefits No husband would ever dare even raise his voice up to her he who dares dies lol, but great job just the same lady

  36. What a sweetheart. I love wildlife rescuers. And, gorgeous leopards.

  37. Leopards are man-eaters and will hunt humans in the wild. They are very very dangerous. She has more guts than most people I have seen who work with the big cats. Even if tamed at a young age, and seemingly non-aggressive, leopards can turn on their handlers without warning. They remain vicious wild animals – beautiful and graceful and must be protected at all costs. They are the jewels of the bush. Join the fight against poaching of Africa's wild animals.

  38. They say it is their goal to release those animals back into the wild but have they done so successfully in the past? A leopard being used to humans feeding him for years might not shy away from appoaching humans after its release. That's potentially lethal to both sides of such an encounter.

  39. She better keep a pistol because i dont trust that leopard. Anyone know if she still alive?

  40. I am scared watch this my basic cat bite me and hurt as fk if this leopard bite ….

  41. Leopards are my Fav animal

  42. I personally believe these cats are descended from jaguars who left the Americas thousands of years ago to the old world aka Asia Europe and Africa

  43. What excellent examples of nature's purrfect killing machines. I am enamoured, they are perfect. Thanks for doing excellent work

  44. Robber sees Beware of Leopard sign, ok next house

  45. Leopard is one of my Favorite Animals. It's awesome how gentile they are with you. It's disturbing that poachers are killing these Cats for their furs because of society's pressures due to financial stress on people. Also, expansion of land developers who only think about money in which it places Leopards, Jaguars or other wild animals close to civilization. Leopards along with many, many other Large cats are becoming extinct due to this and because people lose their livestock only because of expansion & growth in societies that Humans become these very beautiful Cats worst enemies, like the Siberian Tiger which is also being hunted and becoming extinct. It's a crying shame. Thank you for your hard work and dedication along with love for them. Peace, Grace & Mercy to you all.

  46. You should breed the cats so there population doesn’t die out

  47. How are the cats acquired? If they are placed there after being seized from an illegal operation, they are rescued. If they are bought from game farms for example, they are not rescued, they are purchased.

  48. When they let Felicia go someone has got to say “Bai Felicia!”

  49. We're just fascinated with the humans & wild animals bonding but in reality these people just upload these videos to attract rich people who think spending money on these animals will help them sleep better at night while. ✌️

  50. Having two males together in one enclosure is not safe, especially for leopards since they are antisocial.

  51. Excellent work you are doing

  52. Подозрительно добрый леопард, они ж злющие как сатана

  53. Wow, I envy this lady, I am a hopeless cat lover but never had a chance to come close to the big cats. Lovely video, thanks for sharing.

  54. I wonder if you could train them to give paw.

  55. Leopards and tigers are the wildest of the big cats and the hardest to tame.

  63. Omg beautiful ty for helping them

  64. How many kg of meat per day

  65. They are provided a good life despite their habitat loss, hope has arisen once again..

  66. You r a wonderful lady I wish everyone thought like you reguardi g animals. I love all cats its so awful what people do to them for greed. May many great things happen for u and your mission. I'm jealous but I've got more faith in humans doing the right thing thanks to u

  67. I love cats so sweet x

  68. I'd love this doing job, I want my leopard.

  69. You "rescued" animals from one prison, and then put them in another prison. That shows how much you "care". Maybe you can face these truths, maybe not:
    1. You foolish humans are the only problem these animals are facing. The one and only way to "rescue" them is to get out of the way and let nature do its work.
    2. Leopards (your favorite) are solitary and independent. So cuddling them all day may be something you want, but not what they want. They prefer to be left alone and to be illusive for most of the day WITHOUT you watching them
If you can swallow these truths, I'll go on with the list

  70. Wow I love leopard,
    My dream pet is leopard,
Wanna take some pictures with them. 😅

NOT KIDDING WHEN I TALK ABOUT MY PASSIONS LIKE THAT!

  78. I'M A FULL-TIME ANIMAL WILDLIFE EXPERT BUT DON'T HAVE CONCRETE THINGS TO BACK IT UP JUST YET BUT I THINK LEOPARDS INHERENTLY EXHIBIT MORE HOSTILITY TO HUMANS THAN TIGERS LIONS OR JAGUARS (CHEETAHS ARE GENERALLY NOT HOSTILE TO HUMANS)

  79. All the dislikes are from poachers

  80. Extremely irresponsible to turn your back on them while you close the gate. Need to keep your side open

  81. LET THOSE ANIMALS GO FREE!

  82. Fkn just… awful. Treating wild animals like common domesticated house pets. It's disgusting and shameful. Those poor creatures :/ This is not a life.

  83. My sister loves leopards she wishes she had one

  84. Can strangers or tourists pet them???

  85. These wild cats sense this human love for them

  86. Why you keep those beautiful animals locked up?
    Crazy woman bad

  87. svaka cast za ovo samo da ovo nije iskoristi samo preko TV !

  88. I dont want a man i want a cat

  89. i can tell that she's dutch just from her accent.

  90. be careful snuggling with a sleeping cat, it can get startled and unintentionally claw you up pretty quickly even if it's never tried to harm you, my cat nearly ripped my ear lobe off when I put my head next to his once, just gotta be careful when waking any animal up, human also haha, fantastic enclosures by the way
