Welcome to Cat Talk, you’re on the air. Hi Doctor, long time listener, first time caller. Hi. Um, I’m having relationship issues with my cat, Uno. He’s always angry with me, and destroying my house! Oh no! I do so much for him and I’ve just about had enough. Oh my, I’m sorry to hear that! Tell me, what exactly is he doing? Well, he pee’s everywhere! Well, everywhere but his litter box. Oh, I see. Well, the first thing you need to know is that your little Uno isn’t doing this out of spite. This is something us experts call “house soiling”. He may have some unmet needs you’re not aware of, or an illness might even be to blame! So, he doesn’t hate me? No, of course not! And he wants you to be happy by using the litter box again. But, it’s going to take a bit of detective work to figure out the cause. That’s great! Oh wait, wait, I think he might actually be going. . . . . . oh, no. . . never mind. Oh my. I need to move on to the next caller but let me quickly give some of the most common reasons for house soiling. His litter box may be dirtier than he’d like, or there might not be enough litter boxes. He could also be flustered by changes around the house or in your daily routine. It’s also entirely possible that it’s an illness and not a behavioral issue. So, I’m going to be honest with you – this is sometimes a complicated issue to solve, but the folks at my favorite vet practice would love to help you figure it out. Oh thank you so much, doctor. You have been so much help, thank you! OK, no problem!
